Fishing Trip # 308 April 16 - April 23 2003

Brothers Evan and Jarred Cranston from Perth with Golden Trevally caught casting to schools of balled up bait constantly flushing out of the river mouths on the out going tides. The pelagic predators intercepted this bait with relish and we, the highest predator of the food chain intercepted the Pelagic predators with light spin rods and #9 weight fly gear. We released our catches.

Tim Richards (left) stoked with the first of many tuna caught on his hand made rod. A week away from the cold windy heights of his daily bread as a plumber, building the high-rise apartment blocks of what was Melbourne’s docklands and (right) Ed Martin, world travelling angler who has celebrated the19 anniversary of his 60 birthday fishing the fresh water reaches of one of the Cape York rivers. Ed was the successful bidder for the trip we donate to the International Game Fishing Association charity auction annually.

John, the patriarch of the Cranston family at a secret place with a fine fresh water Barramundi. Lee Hodgetts undertaking work experience during school holidays from his high school in Cairns with his first Saratoga from the same location.

Father and son team Michael and Lucas Minshall. Dad with a popper caught Queenfish that are in abundance in the early part of the year and Lucas with a Gold spot Cod caught over some rubble reef on a Halco scorpion 150 DD. From the records we keep. We caught a total of 295 fish for the week including, 122 Queen fish averaging 7 kilos (15lb), 38 tuna and 28 barramundi. We kept 8 tuna, 5 queen fish and a 10 kilo Spanish Mackeral. Better than 8 quality fish per angler per day.Previous Fishing Trip Reports:
